"City sidewalks, busy sidewalks.
Dressed in holiday style"
Burlington Post - December 18, 2014

Bing Crosby had it right when he sang "Silver Bells"; the Downtown is dressed in holiday style this December.

Over twenty-eight businesses vied for awards at this year's Christmas windows of Downtown event and the judges have spoken. The judges had a challenging assignment in rating the magnificently designed window displays in this annual event hosted by the Burlington Downtown Business Association (BDBA). Businesses from all corners of the business district "decked the halls" with festive displays and gathered at this week's award ceremony to hear the results.

The BDBA is proud to announce the trophy winners in the following categories:

Best Window/Exterior (professional)......................................Davies Condos

Best Window/Exterior (non-professional)...........................Lingerie D'Amour

Best Interior Design.........................................................................Fairhome

Best Restaurant/Eatery............................................Son of a Peach Pizzeria

Best Interior/Window Display (service provider)..........The Waterfront Hotel

BEST OVERALL 2014...............................................Pearl & Pine Retirement

A special congratulations to Tim Horton's (601 Brant Street), the winner of the inaugural "people's Choice Award". The trophy was awarded to the business with the most votes in a new online contest that encouraged the people of Burlington to choose their favourite.

Congratulations to the winners and "honourable mentions" for another stellar effort this year. Be sure to check out ALL of the festive displays as you complete your Christmas shopping in Burlington's Downtown this season. It's all here!

Spring has two-thirds sprung
Burlington Post - May 21, 2014

Between the first day of spring (March 20) and the first day of summer (June 21) there are 93 days.

They say spring is more than a season it is a "state of mind" and in some ways these 93 days serve to define and summarize an entire year in downtown Burlington.

My professional backyard is Spencer Smith Park. A sure sign of the season is watching the fleet of strollers being pushed by doting parents and grandparents along the Brant Street Pier and across the promenade.

My frontyard is the downtown business community and it is already bursting with life.

There is real energy on the streets and throughout the downtown with new businesses like Lingerie D'Amour, Son of a Peach Pizzeria and Heavenly Gourmet. And in every corner of the downtown a flurry of special activities from whisky tasting, cooking classes, craft workshops and paint nights to piano bars and open mic evenings.

Spring downtown means renewed friendships being cemented over gelato and ice cream at the many patios that adorn the streetscape.

It is also celebrated by the return of Centro Farmers Market featuring local produce every Sunday morning from 9 a.m. - noon.

Fit in the Core outdoor fitness series kicks off its weekly fun at Civic Square at 10 a.m. Sunday May 25, and, Saturdays in the street features live, local outdoor musicstarting on June 21 with The Reason (from 3-5:30 p.m. at Elgin and Brant).

Love music, craft beer and exotic cars? It's all here.

Father's Day weekend comes alive again this year with the 35th annual Sound of Music Festival beinging live music to the core. Downtown Streetfest and our annual Beach Party on John Street are family favourites as well.

The weekend of July 18-20 brings the first annual Burlington Beer Festival - a celebration of craft beer - to Spencer Smith Park and the exotic super cars from Marques D'Elegance grace the streets Aug. 22-24.

Don't forget, parking is easier than ever downtown. Enjoy free parking every evening, every weekend, and every holiday in more than 1,000 spots on the streets and in the lots.

We are 67.7 per cent through the spring of 2014 and what a year it is sure to be.

Lingerie D'Amour
Snapd Burlington - July, 2014

Brenna studied fashion throughout her high school years and then went on to College to get her official Fashion Design diploma.  During college she worked for La Senza lingerie, quickly working her way up from a part time sales associate to becoming part of the management team. Brenna took extra courses on top of her College diploma in bra and corsetry construction where she was taught how to custom fit, pattern make, and sew bras and corsets. After college Brenna was hired as a lingerie designer for a well known lingerie brand where she designed lingerie for boutiques around the world. Travelling to fashion capitals of the world like Los Angeles, New York, China and Hong Kong for trend analysis research and fabric sourcing. Her designs have been seen on billboards and in window displays worldwide.

Brenna enjoyed the retail side of the business and designing was an amazing experience, but she came to realize that her real dream was to own her own high end boutique and become a buyer herself in the lingerie industry. Focusing on that goal she left her design job and started the exciting journey to owning her own business. Brenna became an Ontario sales representative for a company in Toronto selling luxury lingerie, sleepwear, swimwear and mastectomy wear. Through this experience she was able to learn more about the industry in a perspective that she hadn't discovered yet.
After years of commitment and gaining a wealth of knowledge and experience in all aspects of the lingerie industry, entrepreneur Brenna Finucan created Lingerie D'Amour. Please welcome Brenna to Burlington.

Q & A with Brenna Finucan, president

BODY Magazine - March, 2015

Ted Vayos, BODY: Describe your store for our readers.

Brenna Finucan: Burlington, Ontario has been my hometown since 2010, my husband and I moved here when he was 1 year into College. We fell in love with the city when we had breakfast by the pier with the lake in view and decided we wanted to start a life here. Burlington's downtown is bursting with trendy retail stores, exquisite independent restaurants, lakefront fitness programs and free community events all year round including Canada's largest free music festival, Sound of Music. No matter where you are downtown a beautiful view of the lake is in sight. Its hard not to fall in love with this city.

As a sales representative in my previous job I was fortunate to meet a vast majority of lingerie boutique owners in Ontario which was very inspirational and motivating. Burlington was on my radar from day 1, I explored a couple other cities but in the end couldn't see my store in any other city.

After months of store front searching we found the perfect location; Luxurious wainscoting line the walls, exposed brick trimmed with white crown moulding divide the change rooms from the sales floor, a magnificently large front window, and extravagant change rooms. I could immediately imagine my lingerie store there and thriving. Located on the main street in the city steps away from the lake, a bridal store directly next door and popular retail stores surrounding it, it was the perfect location. Six months later Lingerie D'Amour opened its doors to the city at 374 Brant Street, Burlington, Ontario.

Ted: What makes your store special?

Brenna: Our education, customer service, and products.

Studying fashion design in College while working for La Senza Lingerie as part of the management team was where it all started. Expanding with extra courses in bra and corsetry construction after college I was then hired as a lingerie designer for a well known lingerie brand. Realizing my dream of opening my own store I became a sales representative for a luxury lingerie brand working with boutiques across Ontario. After years of commitment and gaining a wealth of lingerie knowledge, I was ready to open Lingerie D'Amour.

At Lingerie D'Amour we educate our customers with bra fitting knowledge so they understand how their lingerie should fit their body and why a specific style works best. Our staff is continuously being trained on new product knowledge in which we share with our customers.

The products we carry have been tried, tested and true. With research and fit tests we always approve our products before selling it to our customers.

Ted: Describe the popular styles or trends in your store.

Brenna: Sets! Women are matching their bras and panties and in some cases dismiss the bra if they don't like the panty. We have a lot of customers, full bust and small bust, looking for a bra that enhances their natural shape with no padding or lining. Of course neutral any day bras are always a top seller. With the bridal store right next door we have a lot of clients looking for bridal lingerie and bustiers for under their dresses. High waist briefs are a fashionable item right now, slips for sheer dresses and cotton pyjamas for hot nights.

Ted: Describe your price points and size ranges.

Brenna: Our price point starts at $35 - $200 for a bra and $60-$150 for a pyjama set. This is not a set price point, it is likely to fluctuate depending on the demand. We carry sizes AA-K cup and 28-46 band in bras and XS-4XL. We specialize in bra fitting so having a full range of sizes is imperative.

Ted: What is your typical or average customer size?

Brenna: We do not have an average customer size, but the majority of our customers are from A-G

Ted: What does the average customer spend per visit to your store?

Brenna: $130

Ted: Describe your customer.

Brenna: Our main clientele is Females 25-45 looking for a comfortable bra that enhances their body shape. We also have customers with health issues looking for a good support bra that fits properly. An ill fitting bra can cause back pain, neck pain, chafing, acid reflux to name a few and if a bra is too tight can affect your breathing.
We have a big bridal clientele, being located beside a bridal store has been fantastic. A lot of women looking for lingerie for under their dress and for the wedding night.

Burlington Entrepreneur: Lingerie D’Amour
Burlington Lifestyle - January 21, 2015 By Teresa Baerg

In Part 1 of our Burlington Entrepreneur series, we introduced you to Katie Cyr of Monarch Tea Company. Today, we’d like to introduce you to Brenna Finucan of Lingerie D’Amour, who is getting ready to celebrate the one year anniversary of her beautiful store in downtown Burlington. Brenna’s passion for the lingerie business shines through when talking with her and her knowledge and expertise about the business is second-to-none.

I asked Brenna a few questions about how Lingerie D’Amour came to be and she was happy to share her story with Burlington Lifestyle readers.

Why did you open Lingerie D’Amour in Burlington?

Burlington has been my hometown since 2010. My husband and I moved here when he was one year into college. We fell in love with the city when we had breakfast by the pier with the lake in view and decided we wanted to start a life here. Burlington’s downtown is bursting with trendy retail stores, exquisite independent restaurants, lakefront fitness programs and free community events all year round. No matter where you are downtown, a beautiful view of the lake is in sight. It’s hard not to fall in love with this city.

As a sales representative in my previous job, I was fortunate to meet a vast majority of lingerie boutique owners in Ontario, which was very inspirational and motivating. Burlington was on my radar from day 1; I explored a couple other cities but in the end couldn’t see my store in any other city.

After months of storefront searching, we found the perfect location. Luxurious wainscotting lines the walls, exposed brick trimmed with white crown moulding divides the change rooms from the sales floor, there is a magnificently large front window, and extravagant change rooms. I could immediately imagine my lingerie store there and thriving. Located on the main street in the city, steps away from the lake, a bridal store directly next door and popular retail stores surrounding it, it was the perfect location. Six months later, Lingerie D’Amour opened its doors at 374 Brant Street.

What makes Lingerie D’Amour unique?

Our education, customer service, and products. Studying fashion design in college while working for La Senza Lingerie as part of the management team was where it all started. Expanding with extra courses in bra and corsetry construction after college, I was then hired as a lingerie designer for a well-known lingerie brand. Realizing my dream of opening my own store, I became a sales representative for a luxury lingerie brand, working with boutiques across Ontario. After years of commitment and gaining a wealth of lingerie knowledge, I was ready to open Lingerie D’Amour.

At Lingerie D’Amour we educate our customers with bra fitting knowledge so they understand how their lingerie should fit their body and why a specific style works best. Our staff is continually being trained on new product knowledge, which we share with our customers.

The products we carry have been tried, tested and true. With research and fit tests, we always approve our products before selling them to our customers. Fit, quality and comfort are of the utmost importance. We specialize in bra fitting so having a full range of sizes is imperative.

What types of products do you carry?

Lingerie, pyjamas, slips, robes, chemises, bustiers, shape wear, and mens underwear are among the products we carry. We are expanding into mastectomy in the coming months.

Is there a current trend? What are your clients excited about?

Sets! Women are matching their bras and panties and in some cases dismiss the bra if they don’t like the panty. We have a lot of customers, full bust and small bust, looking for a bra that enhances their natural shape with no padding or lining. Of course neutral any day bras are always a top seller. With Promises & Lace bridal boutique right next door, we have a lot of clients looking for bridal lingerie and bustiers for under their dresses. High waist briefs are a fashionable item right now, slips for sheer dresses and cotton pyjamas for hot nights.

Who typically visits your store?

Our clientele is ladies of all ages (15-85) looking for a comfortable bra that fits properly, supports and enhances their body shape. For men shopping for their wives/girlfriends, we keep a record of our clients’ sizes so it is an easy shopping experience. Men also visit the store to shop for themselves, from the unbelievably popular Saxx men’s underwear line. We have a big bridal clientele of women looking for lingerie for under their wedding dress and for the wedding night; being located beside a bridal store has been fantastic.

Why should Burlington Lifestyle readers come visit Lingerie D’Amour?

Most women know that 80% of women are wearing the wrong size bra and I do believe most women get bra fittings. I think the problem is WHERE they are going to get the fitting. Some chain stores and even some boutiques are not properly trained to fit and women end up leaving with a new bra that is ill fitting. Some stores may tell you that the bra fits just to make a sale if they don’t have your correct size in stock. Professional fitters should educate their clients as they are fitting so the client understands why this bra fits, what works best for her body and what to look for when fitting her bras.

Find Lingerie D’Amour at 374 Brant Street or at www.lingeriedamour.ca or on Facebook or Twitter, and be sure to check out their brand new blog!

Formal Dressing Expertise in Downtown Burlington

The Bay Observer - April 17, 2015

Whether you have an upcoming wedding, a formal, a grad, a prom or another special occasion coming up this spring/summer, Downtown Burlington is a great resource to find the perfect dress and all the accessories that go with it.

That is why a group of downtown businesses created the Formal Dress Hop!  There is a wealth of experience and expertise for all things dressy! The Dress Hop is traditionally held on Easter Monday but if you missed it don’t worry! These businesses are always ready to help!

Joelle’s – “For great eight graduations, we love short, simple flirty dresses in pastel colours like lavender, mint and coral.  Our selection of evening dresses suitable for proms, weddings and other special occasions comes from Laundry by Sheill Segal – known for consistent styling and fit – from classics black to brights and florals, rouched bodies and halter necklines.

Mirella’s – “It is nice to see all the pretty pastels in both long and short dresses. When choosing a special occasion dress, the neckline is so important to setting off your best features. The ever popular strapless has had some upgrades with a hint of sequin or two-tone look.  The halter and one shoulder have also made a big impact.”

Organza Lines – “We love embellishment.  Illusional mesh high necks, low backs with deep v cuts and crossfronts, crop tops with long ballgown skirts, embellished bodices with cap sleeves and deep plunging allover sequin dresses are some of our favourites”.

The Oyster – “We are seeing bold floral prints and soft pastels, classic fabrics like silk wool and organza, full skirts with pockets on belted party dresses and every shade of blue!”

Promises and Lace – “Bridesmaid trends this season involve chiffon and tulle gowns for a soft, flowy look in soft colours such as blush, champagne, golds and neutrals.  Prom gowns are short, graduation gowns are long.  Both groups are looking for bling and either plunging necklines or illusion backs.”

Lingerie D’Amour – “Of course, once you find the dress, what you put under it matters! Add volume to your cup size with silicone push up enhancers. Use a low plunge bra with double sided tape under that incredibly low neckline. Avoid tugging and readjusting your strapless bra by being properly sized by a fit specialist.

Toetally Nailed Medi Esthtetics Studio – “Don’t forget those final touches. Colour trends for nails are pastels.  Have fun and make you nails an accessory too – to compliment your beautiful dress. One our two ‘fancy’ fingers (think a little sparkle) with the rest solid is a continuing trend. Be creative!”

You will look amazing at your event this season– consider all the options and say “yes to the dress”!
